SF Early Childhood Educator BA/MA Bonus Program
This program is an additional bonus for qualifying early childhood educators with BA and/or MA degrees working at approved Preschool For All (PFA) sites. PFA staff from Assistant Teacher through Site Supervisor may be eligible for this additional bonus. Check out the following links for more information:
Teacher Action Grants
Preschool for All is pleased to announce that 12 Teacher Action Grants have been approved for 2008! The following educators and programs will receive $750 mini-grants that build learning communities to pursue professional development activities:
- Spanish Bilingual Immersion Project - Vanessa Fontana
San Francisco State University Head Start (Children's Village Site) Teachers will gain an enhanced understanding and use strategies that support dual language learning as they pilot a partial immersion Spanish bilingual experience for children.
- Physical and Motor Development - Monique Guidry
Guidry's Early Care & Education Program After attending physical development workshops at CAEYC, teachers will work with an occupational therapist to expand teaching practices which help children enhance their distinctive features in fine, gross motor and sensory development.
- Nature and Science Discovery Center - Katia Alvarez
Mission YMCA Preschool Site With additional teacher and child resources, teachers will work together to develop a fully functioning Preschool Discovery Area.
- Hands-on Montessori - Emily Green
Dr. William Cobb CDC (SFUSD) All teaching staff will share a series of hands-on materials sessions and observations to increase understanding of the purpose of Montessori materials, particularly in the Sensorial and Language curriculum areas.
- From Sail to Sunflower: Growing Lessons from the Garden - Patti Sheidler
Commodore Stockton CDC (SFUSD) Teaching teams will have professional development sessions and material support with a garden/ecology instructor so that they can work more effectively with the children in this ongoing project.
- Bridging the Communication Gap - Sheriann Chaw
Holy Family Day Home Teachers, administrative and support staff will participate in activities to gain the tools to effectively communicate and build strengths within their teams and organization as a whole.
- Clay Workshops with Preschoolers - Adelina Arcelona
Buen Dia Family School Teachers will learn ways of working with clay in the preschool classroom. They will explore clay techniques and create pieces of art with children that will be glazed and fired using a donated kiln.
- Building Relationships: The Art of Learning - Nina Lawit
San Miguel CDC (SFUSD) Teachers will strengthen teamwork and positive communication skills among staff, exploring how to develop responsive, nurturing relationships with each other and with students and how to impart these social skills in fun and creative ways.
- CAEYC Conference and Expo - Katryna Shek
Portola Family Connections Teachers will attend CAEYC conference to gain different curriculum ideas. They will focus on new research in brain development, how to engage parents in school readiness, promoting health and nutrition.
- Exploring New Materials: Use of Wire and Clay - Erin Shin
Commodore Stockton CDC (SFUSD) Teachers will learn about the use of wire and clay as they begin their study of the Reggio-inspired philosophy and approach. They will attend professional development workshops sponsored by the Museum of Children’s Art.
- Watch Us Grow! Teaching Strategies to Cultivate Social/Emotional Development in the Classroom - Tommy Burns
Junipero Annez CDC (SFUSD) Faculty will participate in training, read relevant literature & engage in team process work, gaining the knowledge and skills, to guide children’s capacity to resolve peer conflicts.
- Music Lights Up Our Lives - Janise Wu
Visitacion Valley Community Center, Inc. (Therapeutic Preschool - Tucker Site) With the support of a music instructor, teachers will learn how to introduce music to young children and to incorporate it into other parts of their learning – literacy, language and culture.
