Quality care can significantly contribute to to a young child's development. Many children spend as many hours with caregivers as they do with their own parents. That is why we are focused on enhancing the relationships between children, their families and their early childhood teachers and childcare providers. We are also committed to developing and strengthening a well-trained early childhood workforce who can skillfully nurture infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

All children are entitled to a preschool education. Funded with $3.3 million in its inaugural year from the Public Education and Enrichment Fund, this program creates learning and socializing opportunities for all four-year-olds of every background. Our support is especially vital to preschools that reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of our community. We currently serve the neighborhoods of Bayview, Excelsior, Mission and Visitation Valley and plan to involve all of San Francisco by 2009.
