As first teachers, parents hold the most power to shape a child. All families can benefit from support and guidance in raising healthy children. That is why we will focus on our neighborhood-based network of family resource centers (FRCs) as central places where parents can seek services and support.
Current Projects
Aligned Family Resource Center Initiative
First 5 San Francisco, the Department of Children, Youth and their Families and the Human Services Agency came together to form the aligned Family Resource Center (FRC) Initiative in Spring 2009. As joint funders, we hope to maximize the impact of this funding and to achieve programmatic and operational efficiencies.
Twenty-three contracts were awarded to FRCs to start activities in July 2009. There are 15 Neighborhood-Based FRCs which target services to families in a specific geographic neighborhood. There are 8 Population-Focused FRCs which target identifiable groups of families who may reside throughout San Francisco and have a demonstrable need for family resource center services that are provided with specialized knowledge, skills and/or expertise.
Below you will see the list of the agencies contracted to provide these services (click on the agency's name to view its website). You can also download a list of the FRCs with program contact and general services information here. First 5 San Francisco leads the management and implementation of this strategy.
Homeless Families Move-In Grants
This grant helps the Human Services Agency transition homeless and low-income families into permanent housing through partnerships with four agencies: Homeless Prenatal Program and the Compass Community Services, Hamilton Family Services and St. Joseph Family Shelters. This grant also helps families avoid evictions so they can maintain the housing they have.
