Our Mission is to provide comprehensive services and support to families, while strengthening the Sunset Community. Our values include working from a culturally humble perspective, offering services in both English and Cantonese, acknowledging strengths and focus on family protective factors and meeting families where they are, and provide accessible services, free of charge.

Workshops and classes

Workshops are held throughout the year and topics include: perinatal support, school readiness, health and nutrition, child development, and financial planning.

Family and community events

We assist in hosting an annual large community event, the Sunset Community Festival, in the fall each year. This all-day event is open to all families and community members and includes local vendors, food trucks and performances.
Additionally the Sunset FRC provides quarterly family events the build community including a halloween party, movie nights, or family dinners.

The Sunset FRC’s Parent Advisory Committee gives parents the opportunity to plan events, teach other parents, and assist in further developing the Sunset FRC.

The Sunset Coordinator can assist families with information and referrals, connecting families to resources within or outside of the Sunset FRC.

Parenting Advice and Skill Building

Toddlers/preschoolers playgroup

The Sunset FRC offers a parent-child Interactive Literacy Class in Cantonese and English. The class includes Snack Time, Free Play, Music & Movement, Singing, Story Time and book-related activities.
The focus of these Early Literacy Groups are for caregivers to interact with the children through play, reading, and other activities.

Family advocacy/case management

We provide case management and family advocacy, which includes helping families connect with resources they want. This includes identifying services and resources, application assistance and advocacy.  Case Management assists families to achieve significant changes in their lives through planning and ongoing support/advice.

Food pantry

Rain or Shine, the Food Pantry operates every week, run by volunteer community members in the Sunset District. The Food Pantry serves 206 households with varying family sizes. We are one of six pantries in the Sunset District.
